Fairly new to our culture, anklets are nonetheless a very ancient piece of jewelry. Archaeological records indicate that in about 2000 BC, women wore them as adornment. Their use by unmarried women has been most popular in India, but in many cultures throughout the world, both men and women have worn and still wear anklets. To site a few examples: The native peoples of the Americas, while performing their ritual dances, or the native Hawaiians all wore and wear them. These adornments have certainly had a great surge in popularity in our culture and today they are part of the jewelry pieces we all want to own.
